POEMS OF CONSEQUENCES   (Excerpt)

Holy

I’m not as holy as you.
When ice melts I don’t
claim responsibility
even though I like warm water.

Driven to seek the unknowable
I know why ice melts.
I just don’t know why molecules
and particles want to exist.

The mystic’s predicament:
You can be holy if you say you are
And you can’t be if you say you aren’t.

But nobody really cares
The ice still melts.
