HIGHER KNOWLEDGE
The old philosopher took a ladder into the bookstore.
The walls lined with books
new and used
He climbed higher and higher
seeking the highest knowledge.
All he found were fancy sacks
called purse extenders,
and toy model kits
representing outlandish devices.
He went up and down the ladder and the aisles
Rising and falling
looking for that ultimate volume of truth.
The ladder slipped.
The philosopher fell.
…In slow motion
the Book Of Truth
glided from a ledge above
And hit him hard on the head.
It had no title.
Its pages were pure white
And blank.
