GURUS
Gurus are both real and fakes. It is the place on the wheel of karma
that determines the validity of a guru. The guru in human form must
meet his/her physical needs and thus is often motivated, at least in
part, by those needs… food, shelter, clothing, etc. The need to be
recognized as a spiritual teacher often results in organizations and
their resultant hierarchy of power. At this point the “guru” looses
it. He/she becomes what others want or expect him/her to be…
elevated to the level of fake.
Ultimately you are your own guru. It is a matter of recognizing the
spiritual lessons that are embedded in our day-to-day living. This
is not easy as we are taught at an early age to look outside
ourselves for knowledge. Our school systems are focused on acquiring
outside knowledge. And that is appropriate for learning about our
physical universe… but also limiting. When science can’t measure or
explain something, some scientists deny and mock the “un-seeable” as
something dreamed up by kooks. However, true scientists, such as was
Einstein, revere the unknown and are open to the lessons of the
universe. Because we can’t measure the spirit or soul, does not mean
they do not exist.
A real guru can be many things… a person, an object, an experience.
A guru is basically a focal point for spiritual knowledge. A guru
does not really teach, but opens doors to allow the Creative Spirit
to enter the soul-body complex. The wisdom comes from the Creative
Spirit, not the guru.
Those who make their living selling enlightenment, whether they are
ministers or yogi masters are suspect. You can follow their methods,
but beware of worshiping them.
You are your own guru. If you really admire someone and would like
him or her to be your personal guru, be his or her friend.
Friendships are two-way deals. Both the guru and the disciple are
the same… each learns and grows through the other.
We are all each other’s gurus and disciples, for our souls in their
many forms are interrelated and one.
