MYTHOLOGY
The heroes and heroines of mythology are the archetypical aspects of
the soul. When seen in the context of the myths, their actions are
the gestures of the soul… universal gestures with multiple meanings
that sum up whole concepts.
Aphrodite, for example, the goddess of love, embodies both the light
and the dark sides of love… beauty, sex, yearning, infatuation,
jealousy… a whole string of emotions (and the soul talks to us by
emotions). So when we think Aphrodite, we think of love personified
in the complexity represented by her many roles, both joyous and
mischievous.
To study the soul is to study mythology and see ourselves, our
activity, our behavior, in terms of the archetypical myths.
It is no coincidence that the ancient sailors navigated their ships
by the constellations. Those very stars gave way to a mythology, a
product of the soul’s imagination. Perhaps we are sailing the
universe through our soul’s inspirations.
When our bodies die, our friends and enemies remember us as they
have known us. Our character will live on, and as stories about us
are passed from generation to generation our presence turns into
myth. We create and live our own myths everyday. So you’d better
make your days myth-worthy!
