   OWL AND MOUSE

In life humans fear death.
Death is denied,
Omitted,
Placed on a back burner.

The shadow of the night owl,
The winged cat,
Passes over the wooden bridge
The mind enlarges…
A huge black beast sweeps
Dragon-like for it’s human prey.

And we pray
As our only defense against the owl with
Its thirty-foot wing spread.
The talons of pain reach into our minds
And we tremble.

Big round eyes search the night.
The owl seeks a morsel of life to devour.
The owl fears hunger.
Humans fear fear.

The mouse is fearless
For it knows not the nature of its fate
But accepts politely its role
Becoming one with the owl spirit.

Humans fear death.
Owls and mice do not.
